Kimχ micro is a small and spicy open hardware embedded SBC that offers tons of versatility for many different applications.
Kimχ micro (pronounced kimchi micro) is a compact single board computer that offers great versatility for many different applications. It is about the size of a Raspberry Pi Zero, but packs a more powerful processor and more expansion and connectivity possibilities.
NOTE: Threaded spacers are not populated on the current version 0.92. This was done to offer better mounting flexibility for lids and other companion boards.

Features
Application Processor
This project was undertaken with video encoding/decoding and wireless connectivity in mind, so the i.MX8M Mini variant supports 1080p60 hardware video encode/decode.
Mini PCIe
The board can host a half or full-mini PCIe module, as often used for high-power Wi-Fi chipsets. Mini PCIe is also perfect for other types of wireless such as LTE and LoRa radios.
USB-C
The board has a full-featured USB-C port with power source and sink capabilities, as well as support for battery charging and power.
Expansion
To enable different applications, kimχ micro has high-density expansion connectors and a standard add-on module specification, as well as a Qwiic connector for rapid prototyping or simple sensor integration.
Expansion Modules
Two high density connectors provide the ability to adapt the kimχ micro to various applications:
We like to call the expansion modules "lids", and the following are currently developed or being worked on:
- 3+1 port USB-A hub lid by GroupGets/GetLab
- E-Paper lid by Vedant Paranjape
- DSI Display lid by Michael Welling
- HiFi Audio lid by Adam Vadala Roth
- GPS lid by A13 Technologies
- CrossLink DSI-HDMI lid by Greg Davill
- Ethernet lid by Adam Vadala Roth
- Feather lid by Kurt Kiefer
- CSI camera lid by Kurt Kiefer

Why did you call it that?
So that when we make more of these boards, we can name them things like sauerkraut, sarmale, or coleslaw, and have a series of them called the cabbage patch. But we really do love kimchi, and it has part of KiCad in it, and i.MX.
