FLIR MCS` pan tilt unit (PTU) systems are certified to MIL-STD-810G Method 509.5 salt fog (48 hours total: one cycle of 24 hours in salt fog; and 24 hours dry time). They are constructed from a mix of materials including anodized 6061 aluminum, which is very corrosion resistant, and powder-coated A380 die cast aluminum. Die cast aluminum may corrode or develop paint flaking in the maritime environment. Additional sealing coatings may be applied by the customer to increase corrosion resistance in these types of environments. In addition, proper grounding and galvanic isolation of the PTU from the installation structure (boat, mounting plate, etc), including mounting hardware, may also reduce the effects of galvanic corrosion on the PTU.
