The DomCo Electronics, Inc. ESP8266 AC Power Switch is everything you need to get started with controlling AC mains from an ESP8266. We know dealing with AC can be intimidating for people at times and we wanted to simplify the process of making your own IoT device. Everything you need to control a 100-240VAC 50/60Hz load is built right onto the board. Simply solder on a power lead and socket of your choice to the Power Switch and the on-board code can get you up and started in minutes. (We have a USA power tail and socket in the optional extras below.) No more needing to wire up an ESP board, a Wall wart, an IoT Power Relay (Power Tail), and a bunch of wires just to control your light or coffee maker. The AC Power Switch consists of a 100-240VAC to 5VDC circuit as well as a 5V to 3.3VDC circuit. It runs on an ESP-12 MCU which is nicely tucked away in the corner. All unused pins of the ESP-12 are broken out to headers so additional sensors or options can be added to the board and simply stacked right on top. We have even broken out the 5V and 3.3V to the header pins. There are 2 on board User programable LEDS as well. To make sure everything is safe, a 10 Amp glass fuse is added between the input and output AC drive circuits allowing the on-board relay to control loads up to 10 Amps AC. We have written some basic code to get people started using the programmer and posted the code to GitHub. The code is written in Arduino and easy to use and modify using our DomCo ESP8266 Programmer or your favorite 3.3V FTDI Board. The circuit board arrives with bare traces on the bottom of the board and for safety it is not recommended to operate the board without it being in an enclosure. We’ve tested these boards in NEMA rated boxes and ran our Christmas light show using them last year. There is over 2 years of R&D in this design and we think it’s the best way to get started controlling AC mains from an ESP8266 and we hope you think so too. The ESP8266 ESP-01 programmer is an all in one programmer/debugger/prototyping tool designed to help get you going quickly with the ESP8266 family of WiFi microprocessors.
With a few jumper wires you will be able to program the ESP8266 Power Switch using this programmer.
The ESP8266 programmer has a 5VDC to 3.3VDC power supply on-board so no external supply is needed. For those of you that don't want to power the programmer off USB we have also put DC input pins on the Programmer so you can supply it with an external supply. The ESP8266 also has a built in USB to Serial adapter and support for automatically putting the ESP into program mode. This makes the ESP8266 programmer capable of running 100% off USB. If you don't like automatic mode, that's fine too! Simply move the programming jumper to the manual position and it's on in manual mode forcing it into program mode on every boot. Remove the jumper completely and you disable programming mode for debugging or running your code. We have every option covered! We also find that many dev kits have very weak USB Micro connectors on them that break easily so we put a very stiff high end USB Mini connector on the board made by Samtec. Instead of buying a cheap connector we went with the best one we could find. The Programmer also has all the pins of the ESP8266 ESP-01 module broken out on a 0.1" breadboard footprint (.6" apart to be exact) so you can add your own header pins and plug it right into a breadboard for prototyping. This allows you to do all your prototyping and development all with one little board. (Header Pins sold separately and not included!)
US Power Cord

The US power cord adds a 1.5 ft USA Male plug and a 1.5ft USA Female plug to your kit. Soldering skills are required but if you want we'll even solder it on for you. The cord is 16/3AWG and color coded.
