AudioMoth Board

Why GroupGet?

This Group Buy was created by Alasdair Davies of the Arribada Initiative in response to requests from a large number of individuals all wishing to individually acquire an AudioMoth device. The individual price of devices from CircuitHub varies with their current component stock levels and the number of devices ordered. We have chosen a fixed price to cover this variation in cost and to support users. This cost does not include taxes and duties. This margin will be used to purchase additional AudioMoth devices to be held in a common spares pool and to provide trial devices to interested parties. The Arribada Initiative actively supports both the conservation community and the developers of conservation technology, and is exploring how open tools can help the developers of conservation technologies to distribute, support and maintain the devices they design into the future.

How it works

This is a group buy campaign that needs to acquire at least the stated minimum amount of pledges from backers like you before the Unit Deliverable and any Add-Ons ship. We do not charge anyone until the Progress above hits 100% or greater, otherwise there is no charge. All campaign products are vetted as existing and functional so your order will be fulfilled within the Factory Lead Time if the campaign succeeds. Please see our FAQ page for more details on our billing process.

I have just created the GroupGet for AudioMoth (Round 3)!

I just placed an order. After confirmation saw the note "case not included". Do I need a case and if so why isn't it on the purchase page?

There is no case for AudioMoth at this time so we'll look into that message.

It's on the "Details" tab: "Unit Deliverable
An AudioMoth device (batteries, SD card, USB cable and case not included)"
Does it mean a carrying case? From the image I'm not sure if it needs any protection when deployed outdoors.

One question - why is shipping to Europe so expensive? 34$ is quite a lot compared to other shops and services I used before.

    GroupGets

Sorry Robert, we've done our best to optimize shipping for EU w/ tracking and insurance. We can't get it lower.

Is it possible to use an external microphone with this? If not, because mems onboard, is there any recommended orientation of the board relative to the direction of the sound?

Can I add a set of bags to my existing order - and not double the postage? What puzzles me is surely the bag cuts out sound. What would be cute would be a plastic cover clipped above a parabolic dish - any plastic fabricators out there?

@allan, adding the bag as an accessory won't affect postage (ha). We see a lot of fielded installations online of AudioMoth in the plastic bag so the attenuation must not be too bad. @ceremona, no external mic required or even supported. Good question on orientation though, we'll have to ask the designers.

@ceremona, after looking at the board, in the bottom right corner there is a microphone icon w/ a hole right in the middle. Aim that towards your source.

Ok, have to think about it. Another question: campaign ends on 20th April and then it is another six week until the devices get shipped? Do I get that right? How fast is shipping to Germany with this 34$ insured/tracked service? Thanks.

Campaign could end earlier if it maxes out sooner (this has happened before). Then we go to production which takes about 4 weeks. Shipping from that point to DE takes about a week if the customs agents don't get overzealous.

Unfortunetaly it's to late to buy audiomoth for this round :(( I need 5 copy. Please could you increase quantity of availability ?
    Thanks

@all, we billed every backer today. Once funds settle in a couple days, we plan to fire up production with Circuit Hub. There were some billing failures and if they don't reconcile within a few days we will free those units up and make a post here to let people like @seligeria4 get some.

But would it be possible to sub out the mems microphone for, say, a contact mic or some other external?

Hello, I would like to reserve 8 units. Please let me know if slots become available for this round. Thank you

@ceremona, we don't advise changing the microphone. That said, the design is open source and the schematic is published. Modify the board at your own risk but good luck!

@All, we are looking into the feasibility of launching a bonus mini round next week. Working on logistics now. T
