  • Records uncompressed WAV files to SD card
  • Powered by 3 x AA batteries
  • Analog MEMS microphone
  • Analog pre-amplifier with adjustable gain

  • Configurable USB interface
  • Onboard real-time clock keeps track of time in UTC

AudioMoth is an output from a research project at the University of Southampton and the University of Oxford to develop low-cost acoustic sensors for environmental and biodiversity monitoring. The hardware design, and all associated software, is open-source and freely available. Note that AudioMoth is a prototype research tool, and is not a commercial product. As such, it comes with no warranty or guarantee that it is fit for purpose.

For more information about the AudioMoth 1.0.0 and device support, please visit the Open Acoustic Devices website.

Why GroupGets?

This Group Buy was created by Alasdair Davies of the Arribada Initiative in response to requests from a large number of individuals all wishing to individually acquire an AudioMoth device. The individual price of devices from CircuitHub varies with their current component stock levels and the number of devices ordered. We have chosen a fixed price to cover this variation in cost and to support users. This cost does not include taxes and duties. This margin will be used to purchase additional AudioMoth devices to be held in a common spares pool and to provide trial devices to interested parties. The Arribada Initiative actively supports both the conservation community and the developers of conservation technology, and is exploring how open tools can help the developers of conservation technologies to distribute, support and maintain the devices they design into the future.

We had a question regarding shipping rates and multiple devices if shipped to the UK. The following table is up to date as of 08/09/2017

    1 device - $46.58 (£35)
    5 devices - $48.58 (£36)
    10 devices - $55.11 (£41)

For those not in a tearing hurry, perhaps a bulk ship to UK (or Europe) and then sent on might be possible? These shipping rates are rather high for less than 10 devices.

  • Avatar

Anybody interested near Marseille (France)? I want only one device but shipping is too expensive.

  • 9zi7mnmg normal

Everybody stay tuned, we are working on a forwarding solution w/ the UK-based campaign organizers and the details should be live in a couple days. Basically we will ship to North/South American orders and users can have the option to have the organizers forward their orders at a cheaper rate than we can provide but it will take longer b/c we must first ship to them.

  • 9zi7mnmg normal

For certain overseas markets (UK and EU primarily) and quantities we have found a cheaper shipping solution with the help of the campaign creators. If you already backed units and it applies to you, your rate has already been adjusted. If you are a new backer, you will see the cheapest available rate at checkout.

Got my 4. Will there be another batch available? I'd like to get several more for next years field season

The campaign is listed as running for 3 more days, yet my order is not editable anymore. I'd like to change to shipping address :(

Is that groupgets full and closed (over 400 already ordered) or is there a way to order more audiomoth. We (a french informal group) wanted to order 23 units.

  • 9zi7mnmg normal

Felix, please make a support ticket at the Help tab above and we'll get it sorted out.

lpofredc, we are in fact maxed out but a second round is imminent. If units from this round free up we will let you know.

Just went to order 2 and get "Only a limited quantity of 0 can still be reserved." I sort of assumed 200 was the minimum (global) order but it looks like 400 is the maximum order - is that true?

  • 9zi7mnmg normal

True, there is a max of 400 due to supply chain constraints on some of the parts. There is another round planned after this one though.

  • 9zi7mnmg normal

For now we are sticking to the advertised lead time of 21 working days after campaign closure. Add a few days to that for transit.

  • 9zi7mnmg normal

What do you mean? There is the recommended memory card and a micro-usb cable as an accessory for this campaign. We have a link to the recommended battery in the description (we didn't add that as an accessory due to the complication of shipping batteries).

Is AudioMoth tested with the larger 64, 128Gb cards?
Does it actually need the 90Mb/sec write speed cards, what is the actual data rate going in to the card?
