Get the Tech out of the Lab:
Use GroupFund for your Next Venture

GroupFund was created to allow developers of all kinds and conservation technology ninjas to raise funds for development and physical deployments. Created out of the necessity to evolve and assist due to the chip shortage dramatically reducing our community's ability to build hardware, as well as our own, GroupFund opens an exciting new chapter for our platform and removes the constraint of having to ship physical hardware to backers. Use GroupFund to update open software, firmware and hardware. Use GroupFund to deploy and retrieve your AudioMoths (or whatever) for your badass conservation research. Help us raise a middle finger to the chip supply shortage and use GroupFund to design and build your own.

Inaugural GroupFund Highlight: PyFive ASIC

Funding to pay for an engineering team to work on the PyFive libre silicon project

In 2019, Google sponsored a free ASIC multi-project wafer (MPW) shuttle program in collaboration with eFabless and the SkyWater foundry. Not only did they provide an unprecedented open source PDK for the 130nm process node, but also allowed teams to submit open source ASIC designs to a series of shuttles free of charge. Unfortunately, the MPW-1 had some hold time violations rendering the ASICs "dead on arrival" when delivered. The PyFive team in a ditch effort created a post mortem carrier design which allowed some signs of life to be extracted from the MPW-1 chips. The team has since found trouble finding the time to contribute due to the extremely busy schedules of the contributing team members. Though the PDK, tools, and shuttle are free, the engineering is not. As the major PyFive contributors are independent contractors, hours logged toward the project are cutting into their billable time.

Funding will help support the develop of the various IP components. Corporate sponsorship with prominent logo placement also available.
